Replacing Your Crankcase Ventilation Valve/Oil Separator

I was led to replace this valve due to a plume of smoke that happened nearly every time I started the car.

To begin the manifold intake cover needs to be removed. There are 4 buttons, as designated, that must be pushed in before the cover will release. I know this is elementary, but I've seen a few forums where folks asked how this is removed.

The CVV/OSV (crankcase ventilation valve/oil separator valve) is on the back on the intake manifold next to the firewall.

This is the new replacement with gasket. I purchase these at Baron BMW. $71.00 for the CVV and $6.79 for the gasket. This was the price after club discount.

For easier access to the CVV I removed the cabin air filter housings. Once you remove the filter box, you can twist the firewall connection housing with a 1/8 to 1/4 twist in the direction of the arrow.
